Center High School Trojans Football

This is the official site of the Center High School Trojans football team. The 2009 season is finally upon us, with much anticipation building. As you know, this will be the last ever Center High Trojan football team, with the Central Valley Warriors taking over next season. However, not all is new with the program. Many familiar faces have returned to the program and surrounding groups to bid it a fond farewell. Kyra Pucevich has taken over as cheerleading sponsor, while long time band director James Rizzo will take to the podium one final time, coming out of retirement to lead the band. More information can be found on both of these updates on their respective pages. This year's team is coming off of one of our best showings of late, with a trip to the WPIAL Quarterfinals last season. With much talent returning at the skill positions, there are great expectations on the "Boys of Troy" to make the final Trojan season a memorable one. The season began with a road trip to Mohawk. Ben Cobb started the game off with a 90 yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown, as our Trojans rolled to a 35-7 win. Next the team headed to Imperial Township and Moon High School, where a balanced attack of 344 offensive yards led to a convincing 30-7 win over the AAA Tigers. The following week brought us our first home game at Sarge Alberts Stadium with the always tough New Brighton Lions. With a balanced offensive attack led by sophomore backup quarterback Curtis Lewis, our Trojans rolled to a 48-7 victory. Next we traveled to northern Beaver County to pay the Riverside Panthers a visit. Another balanced attack with Preston Dawson back into the fray at quarterback led to a 36-14 win over the Panthers. Next we journeyed into Bulldog Country to play the always tough Freedom Bulldogs, under first year head coach Mark Lyons. Curtis Lewis again led the Trojans to a 21-0 victory in a muddy mess. The next week broughtus the most anticipated time of the year, Homecoming. That weekend's festivities began with a bonfire to prepare for the game before the boy's soccer game at Sarge Alberts Stadium versus the always tough Blackhawk Cougars. Coronation was Friday Afternoon, with the queen being Erin Hampe, and the King Trevor George. The game with Aliquippa was a tough one, as our boys fought valiantly but fell 13-12. Following the game there was an alumni afterparty at Center Stage featuring the Jaggerz. On Saturday Morning there was a golf outing at Blackhawk golf course, and then the traditional homecoming parade featuring members from all classes of CHS, prior to the "Party in the Park" with Cassanova providing entertainment was held. The event was a smashing success, with many old classmates reuniting for a good time. The next week brought Elwood City to the friendly confines, led by former Center Head Coach and current guidance councelor Don Phillips. Our Trojans were victorious in the rain, winning by a final score of 21-0. Last week, we faced off with the PIAA #1 Ranked Beaver Falls Fightin' Tigers. Our Trojan defense stunned the typically potent BF offense, as our Trojans upset the Tigers 21-7. Our final regular season home game ever brought the Beaver Bobcats to town. Our Trojans fell early, but rallied in the end to defeat the Bobcats 23-14 With that win, our Trojans recieved a share of the MAC Championship, the top seed offered to the MAC playoff teams, and a home game for the playoffs! After the Pairing meeting the WPIAL gave us the #3 Seed overall in AA and a first round matchup with the Washington Prexies. In the last game ever played at Sarge Alberts' Stadium, our Trojans handily beat the Prexies, 27-0. In the quarterfinals, we were matched up against the always tough Greensburgh Central Catholic Centurions at Fox Chapel. Despite a valiant effort by our boys, the team fell by a final score of 30-3 to the eventual WPIAL AA Champions, ending our final chapter of Center Football on a sad, but proud note. We at the quarterback club would like to thank everyone who has supported Trojan football throughout the years, including past players, coaches, and staff members who have made the last 47 years memorable for all of us. We hope to see you all next year, as the Central Valley Warriors blaze a new trail in WPIAL history, with the Central Valley quarterback club there every step of the way. Thank You all!
